Inspired by Dudok

The exhibition is based on the book Inspired by Dudok, written by architectural historian Joke Reichardt and journalist Peter Veenendaal, which is also on sale from 20 January at the DAC and at various bookshops. Exhibition and book show how the formal language of architect W.M. Dudok has been imitated by countless other master builders worldwide since the 1920s. Even today.
 
Reichardt and Veenendaal conducted research over the past two years and found many dozens of fine examples of imitation in the Netherlands, but also elsewhere in Europe. In Belgium and Britain, for instance, but also in Norway, Germany, France, Spain and Portugal. Colleagues in other parts of the world were also inspired by Dudok's work, such as in the US, Australia, Israel, Indonesia and on Curaçao.
 
Who were these fellow professionals, what relationship did they have with Dudok and why did they build in his style? Through 26 examples, this exhibition answers those questions. In addition, dozens of other examples of imitation from around the world can be seen on monitors. In the introductory video 'Inspired by Dudok', experts, renowned and young architects explain why Dudok's work is such a great source of inspiration. Even today.

The exhibition is open on Wednesday from 14:00 - 17:00 and on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 - 16:00. Registration in advance is not necessary
